The Complicity of Model-Based Approaches and Patterns for UI Engineering

Starting from some general considerations, we will outline different kinds of patterns that can impact the creation of the task model. We will then introduce a 4-part “strategy” about the process of pattern application followed by an analysis about what a formal notation for patterns for the task model should encapsulate. In particular, we discuss the fundamental concepts underlying a generic notation for patterns. By using task patterns, different views of patterns are suggested using UML and Concurrent Task Tree notations. A first classification of patterns according to models is also drawn. Finally, we will introduce a tool that acts as a wizard and guides pattern users throughout the process of pattern application.
